Black Raven

(Bill Weisband)
She was born
in Hot Springs
She sat on the porch
breaking beans
and dreaming
About her get-a-way
Went to school
at Dorlan Bell
Living with her Daddy
was living hell
So she made her way
to Washington DC

Thats where she left
Her mark upon the world
They called her the
Black Raven Girl

She was a Black Raven
With hair as dark as night
When she shook her head
looked like a
raven taking flight
She could pierce you
With her hazel eyes
When she walked her dress unfurled
They called her the Black Raven Girl

Dad, he was a gambler
He liked to draw outside the lines
He walked out on the high wire
Chasing shadows in the night
No woman ever tamed him
No one ruled his world
Until he met the Black Raven Girl

She was a Black Raven
With hair as dark as night
When she shook her head
looked like a raven taking flight
She could pierce you
With her hazel eyes
When she walked her dress unfurled
They called her the Black Raven Girl

It was the summer of 49
The Raven broke her wing
They wouldn't let the Raven fly
But they could not make her sing
She stood there by my Daddy
Him and her against the world
They called her the Black Raven Girl
